I want to thank the Tomball Pachyderm Club and the Tomball Republican Women’s Club for the wonderful “Run-off Candidates Forum” Saturday, July 14. Barbara Tague deserves the lion’s share of the credit for her untold hours of hard work putting this together.
No one believed two weeks ago we would have both Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz in Tomball, a week before the election. Texas, as you know, is a really big place and both men had dozens of offers to speak; but Barbara pulled it off. She spent hours on the phone coordinating and calling in favors she has earned over the years. Tague has many friends in both the county and state Republican party hierarchy and she worked those contacts!
We also had both Republican candidates for sheriff in attendance, as well as candidates for the Texas Supreme Court, the Texas Railroad Commission and candidates for District Judges in the 152nd and 129th districts; quite an impressive list.
The audience was “standing room” only. Barbara even had a Boy Scout troop selling water and they did extremely well. I don’t know who she coordinated the weather with, but it couldn’t have been better.
Again, thanks to Barbara Tague for being the force behind this event. When I say behind, she really was: never once was she introduced, take a bow or even sit at the front. Barbara was in the back directing traffic, getting more chairs and helping the candidates and their staff people get situated.
All I did was emcee and introduce the candidates, but I got all the TV coverage --- it should have been Barbara, she did the work, wrote the scripts and continued handling details throughout the afternoon.
Kudos for a job well done to the Tomball Pachyderm Club, Tomball Republican Women and especially to Barbara Tague!
