A Tomball man was killed in a violent crash last weekend north of Magnolia, just inside Grimes County.
State troopers, Grimes County deputies, firefighters and medics responded to a report of a crash on FM 1774, around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 25.
Troopers said Denis Rafael Bautista-Carrasco, 20, of Tomball, was traveling south on FM 1774 in Plantersville with a friend, Oliderio Saolis, 19, of Magnolia. As they approached County Road 351, a northbound white Dodge pickup, driven by Paul Miller, 52, of Spring, was rear ended by a Ford F-350 driven by Calvin McKealey, 42, of Waller.
The impact of the initial crash forced Miller's truck into the southbound lane, where he hit Bautista-Carrasco's car head-on.
Bautista-Carrasco died at the scene, while his passenger Saolis, was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Firefighters had to cut the door from the car and lift the dash to recover Bautista-Corrasco's body.
Miller was transported to St. Luke's in The Woodlands, while Saolis and McKealey were transported to St Joseph's in College Station. All three were listed in stable condition.
Troopers also said that several cinder blocks in the back of McKealey's truck flew out, with one crashing into the windshield of a 2012 Ford Mustang, driven by Kandy Wyatt, 40, of Magnolia. She was not injured.
Troopers said that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident, but that McKealey did submit to a mandatory blood draw.
