Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigators need help identifying and arresting a home burglary suspect.
On August 8, 2012, during the morning hours a home in the Sentinel Oaks subdivision, just off of SH 249 in the Pinehurst area, was burglarized. Surveillance video
captured the suspect as he left the residence with a large screen television.
The suspect is a white male who, during the burglary, was wearing grey baggy shorts, a dark pullover shirt with a set of angel wings on the back and a baseball cap. The suspect appears to have long thin sideburns that extend into a thin beard to his chin.
Anyone who recognizes this suspect should call Detective Mike Price with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5876 or 281-259-6414.
Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment of a felony crime. Call 800-392-STOP (7867). Anonymous tips can also be
made through the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers Web Page at www.montgomerycountycrimestoppers.org.
A man is now in custody on burglary charges, after security footage aired publicly showed the man stealing a television from a house near Pinehurst.
Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) recently released security footage showing a man kicking in the door of a home and running out with a large television. After that footage aired in numerous media outlets, deputies say that they were flooded with numerous tips. One of those tips led them to Zachary Todd Woodard, 21, who they caught near Magnolia.
The home is in the Sentinel Oaks subdivision.
"At the time of the arrest, crystal methamphetamine was found and Woodard has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance," a MCSO press release stated. "During the arrest Woodard attempted to convince detectives that he was his younger brother."
Detectives went on to say that Woodard did not state he had seen the security camera footage, but that he was aware of news reports of the crime.
"His appearance had recently been altered by cutting his hair and shaving," the release stated.
Police said that the stolen property has not been recovered, but they will continue looking.
Most days you can find a surprise shopping experience on the side of 34614 Texas Hwy. 249 near Coe Road in Pinehurst. The market Elysium (Elysian Fields) offers home-made crafts and fresh produce for sale weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to dusk.
A larger selection is offered on Fridays and Saturdays as a greater number of vendors set up shop on the location next to the Beaver Creek Boathouse restaurant to ply their wares. Whether you are looking for a holiday gift, a unique home decoration or fruits and vegetables for your dinner table, you will usually find it at the market.
Elysium opened two months ago, in September. Rose Leverton, the market's founder, explained how she came to be the proprietor of the new roadside market.
"I had lost my job and was looking for a career alternative," she said. "I had always enjoyed making crafts and had sold them at local events, so I wanted to try selling seasonal decorative items. I did some research on rental properties and road traffic. I learned that more than 55,000 cars per day passed this location and that I could rent the property for a reasonable rate. I started out selling my crafts and almost sold out the first day. Then I added the produce. Then more vendors asked to join me. I thought that would offer a better selection and more people would stop. I was right. It just took off from there. I feel blessed to be able to make my own future."
Crafts vendors interested in joining Leverton at Elysium can pay a small daily fee of $15 for a 12-foot space on her lot, bring a table and pop-up canopy, and be in business. She has a Facebook page for those who would like more information about the types of items being offered for sale: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Elysium always offers produce, but the crafts vary. On recent days, vendors have been selling quilts, yard stones, jewelry, jams and jellies, furniture, centerpieces and bamboo plants. So far, there have been very few days the roadside market has had to close due to bad weather, so local residents will very likely be able to check it out on any weekday or Saturday.
"We are starting to get regular customers who visit all the time," said Leverton.
She said Saturday is the best day, because there are more customers and a greater selection of items to purchase.
Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies said a convenience store in the Pinehurst area was burglarized, during the early morning of Dec. 5.
Ken’s Bread and Butter store in the 34700 block of SH249, was burglarized and the suspects tried to get into the automatic teller machine.
Two males pried open the front door of the business and both were wearing dark colored clothing and had their faces covered, according to deputies.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public to solve this crime.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Shannon Spencer of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 281-577-8942 or 936- 760-5800.
Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment of a felony crime. Call 800-392-STOP (7867). Anonymous tips can also be made through the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers WEB PAGE at www.montgomerycountycrimstoppers.org.
His name is Smokey.
A fitting name, considering the miracle dog was found alive by firefighters inside the smoldering remains of a Pinehurst home that burned down around him on Valentine's Day.
Firefighters found the dog breathing shallowly, but he only had a small burn above his eye. They quickly administered oxygen to the dog and called workers from Paws to Claws Veterinary Clinic in Magnolia to take the dog for emergency treatment.
"He was in bad shape," said Rhonda Lankford, an employee of the clinic who picked up the dog. "He was dehydrated, full of chemicals and had suffered from extreme smoke inhalation."
It was so bad that he was only taking about 40 breaths per minute – a very shallow rate for an active dog.
Lankford rushed Smokey to the clinic where her boss, Dr. Suzanne Knoop Scott, began treatment and placed the dog in their intensive care unit. The owner of the home that burned claimed the dog was just a stray that they fed, but that was the opening the staff needed to begin aggressively treating Smokey, in order to save him. By law they cannot treat a dog without an owner's permission.
For the first few days the prognosis was iffy. Smokey would just fall over when he tried to walk and was very thin. Suddenly though, the dog began to show marked improvements.
While he is a quiet dog, he is extremely loving and friendly, Lankford said. She said the improvement is remarkable and could be considered miraculous.
"He's bright and alert," Lankford said. "He's 100 percent better. Sometimes they just have a will to survive."
While Smokey is heartworm positive, Scott believes that it isn't too severe and can be treated with preventative medicine, while his body recovers from the effects of the fire.
Heartworms are not contagious to either animals or humans.
"He has to get fully recovered from the smoke inhalation before we can do the full treatment for the heartworms.
He could also stand to gain a few more pounds she said.
While Smokey is still recovering, it doesn't mean he has to stay too much longer at the clinic. He's only on oral medications and Scott said he could go home in about a week – that is if he had a home to go to.
With no one claiming the dog and a lack of space at the clinic, the staff is afraid they may have to turn Smokey over to animal control, at which point he could be euthanized within three days.
Area no-kill shelters are full and the doctor and her staff are frantically searching for a new home for Smokey.
Considering what the dog survived, it would be heartbreaking to many if he had to be put down, simply because he didn't have a home to go to.
If you are interested in helping provide Smokey with a new home, contact the staff at Paws to Claws Veterinary Care at 281-356-2384.
