The deadline to apply for the Tomball Police Department's (TPD) 11th annual Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is rapidly approaching. All completed applications must be returned no later than 5 p.m., Aug. 16. Community members 18 years of age or older who live, work, shop or attend school in Tomball are invited to attend.
"The CPA was established to foster positive relationships between members of the community and the men and women of the Tomball Police Department, by increasing awareness of safety issues, and overall law enforcement operations," said TPD Sgt. Rebecca Carlisle. "It is our belief that sharing knowledge of police practices, policies, and procedures, serves as a critical component in building meaningful relationships between police department employees and those they are sworn to protect and to serve."
The CPA consists of eight classroom sessions covering subjects such as patrol tactics, investigations procedures, search and seizure, drunk driving enforcement, accident investigations, dispatch operations and traumas in law enforcement. The 2013 class will run weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 3 and will culminate with a graduation ceremony Oct. 29. There is no charge for participation and refreshments will be provided.
Applications may be obtained from the TPD Records Unit, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or downloaded here. Police department staff will notarize applications at no cost, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For additional questions, contact Carlisle at (281) 290-1312 or
