Montgomery County deputies caught a home invasion suspect as he was being treated for a gunshot wound he suffered during the crime.
Adrian Granados-Yepez, 27, of Tomball was arrested at Memorial Hermann Hospital Jan. 28, in Houston, after deputies say he was shot by a Magnolia woman, after breaking into her home. The home invasion occurred in the 18700 block of Mink Lake Drive.
Deputies said that three men attempted to enter the home Jan. 25 , but fled after the 33-year-old mother shot Yepez.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, told deputies that she was putting her 6-year-old son to bed when she heard noises coming from her bedroom. She then ran into her living room, where she saw three masked men pointing a gun at her.
She told detectives that she then led the men to her bedroom, promising to get them money, where she retrieved her pistol and shot Yepez in the stomach. While Yepez and another man fled, a third suspect grabbed the woman's gun and kicked her, before running out of the house.
"Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are working to identify other suspects," Montgomery County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris said in a statement.
Detectives are asking that anyone with information call the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-392-7867, the sheriff's office at 936-760-5800 or detectives Mullis and Hahs at 936-760-5876.
A police chase through the back streets of Tomball ended peacefully in the suspect's driveway, as officers took the man into custody without incident Jan. 29.
Tomball police said that Ronald F. Toney, 37, of Tomball, fled from Officer C. Burns, after he tried to stop Toney in the 600 block of James Street late that afternoon.
The chase started near the city's public works building, winding its way to McPhail Street, where police say that Toney went westbound until he got to Cherry Street. Toney then allegedly headed south on Cherry, turned right on Belmont until the chase ended in the suspect's driveway on Willowick Street.
"Once he stopped, we did a high risk takedown and he obeyed all our commands," said Tomball Police Cpt. Rick Grassi. "At that point he was cooperative."
Other officers that were on location of an automobile accident near the Tomball Community Center laid spike strips across Cherry Street during the pursuit, in anticipation of Toney heading north on Cherry.
Grassi said the man gave them an odd reason for fleeing.
"When I asked him why he did it he said he didn't have insurance or a driver's license," he said. "So something that would have been a ticket, or at worse a few hours in the Tomball jail turned into a felony evading charge."
According to the Harris County District Clerk website, Toney bonded out of jail Jan. 31, posting a $5,000 bond.
Toney's previous criminal history only shows an infraction for possessing marijuana in 2011. His next court appearance is set for Feb. 18.
Tomball Police arrested a man in the process of beating and choking a woman near the Tribune office last week.
Police said that Anthony Aaron Royal, 30, of Tomball, found his ex-girlfriend at a laundry facility on Magnolia Street.
"She fled from him at that time and he caught up to her in an alleyway just south of Main Street," said Tomball Police Cpt. Rick Grassi. "He tried to talk to her about their relationship and didn't like what he heard, because he struck her in the face."
At that point, Grassi said that Royal allegedly grabbed the woman around her neck with his arm and began dragging her down the alleyway. Someone from a nearby restaurant or motel saw the incident and called police.
Police arrived and arrested Royal at gunpoint, where they transported him to the Tomball city jail. He was later transferred to the Harris County Jail.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Royal is a man who Tomball Police and other law enforcement agencies have dealt with before.
"We arrested him a few months prior to this incident for family violence," Grassi said.
Royal had recently pled no contest last November to those charges and served a little more than a month in the Harris County Jail. He also has a string of prior drug related arrests in Harris County.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office also filed an emergency order of protection against Royal, on behalf of the victim, which a judge approved.
Royal has been charged with a felony domestic violence charge, because he choked the woman. Grassi explained that anytime that an assault occurs where someone impedes the victim's ability to breathe; charges are automatically updated to a third degree felony.
As of press time Royal was still in the Harris County Jail, held with no bond. A court appearance was held Feb. 8, but results of that appearance were not yet available.
Harris County deputies are searching for a man they believe walked into a Tomball area office and shot a worker in the face on Valentine's morning.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office has accepted charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Assault with Serious Bodily Injury against Gary Ishmael Bolin, 61.
Detectives said that Bolin walked into a home that had been converted into office space for a nearby business at the corner of Dogwood and Hufsmith Kuykendahl Road at about 10:30 that morning and shot a 54-year-old employee in the face, after an argument quickly escalated.
Deputies claim the two men had an ongoing dispute, when the suspect walked into the offices.
They said that Bolin did not communicate with anyone else in the building, but went directly to the victim's office and minutes later pulled out a handgun.
Detectives claim that Bolin then fled from the scene in a dark red or possibly maroon over white dually pickup truck. They won't confirm what relationship the pair had, but said that Bolin does have something to do with the property. They also claimed that the two are currently involved in a civil lawsuit against each other.
The suspect was described as a white male, wearing a white cowboy hat, light colored western shirt and blue jeans.
As of press time he was still not in custody. If arrested, Bolin will be held on $60,000 bond.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone with information on Bolin's whereabouts contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477, or the Harris County homicide unit at 713-967-5810.
Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office are seeking information about any additional incidents involving a former technology camp manager, who has been charged with sexual assault and indecency with a child.
Anthony Tang, 38, was recently booked into the Harris County Jail, on charges that he assaulted a then-14-year-old boy about two years ago. The incident allegedly took place at the Camp Katy Technology camp, near the 400 block of West Grand Parkway South. The camp has relocated since then.
Activities at the camp included overnight stays by under-age participants.
Anyone with information about any sexual abuse incidents related to this case should call Sheriff's Office investigators at 713-830-3250 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
A Magnolia woman has been arrested and charged in Harris County, after she allegedly embezzled nearly $200,000 from her Tomball employer.
Cindy Lee Berry, 44, was charged with Theft of greater than $100,000, but less than $200,000, after officials allege she stole the money over a period of a year-and-a-half fromher employer Johnston Water Well Service. The thefts allegedly took place from Jan 2011 through August of 2012.
The owners of the company have also filed a civil suit in Montgomery County against Berry. Their attorney in the civil case, Field Hudgens, said that the Johnston's discovered some irregularities when looking over their books.
"It came to my client's attention that there were irregularities in the books, checks were missing among other things and an audit showed that there was nearly $200,000 missing," Hudgens said. "After more digging it became clear to them who was responsible."
At that point the Johnston's turned over the information to the Harris County Sheriff's Office who investigated the case.
"We worked with law enforcement agencies to provide all the information to them," Hudgens said.
After completing a lengthy investigation, the Harris County District Attorney's Office filed charges against Berry a month ago, after a grand jury decided to indict her.
"The DA's office has taken a very hard look at this case and is treating it as a very serious matter," said assistant district attorney Lester Blizzard. "It was reported to us and we found evidence to support the alleged embezzlement."
Berry was arrested on April 18. She made a $100,000 bond on April 26 and was released.
Her attorney Stephen Jackson of Conroe said he is still in the early stages of building Berry's defense strategy.
"I have been in touch with her civil attorney and the district attorney is cooperating with us in handing over the information we need," Jackson said. "We will be digging into the records in order to get to the bottom of this. It's a private matter for the Berry's and we will help them through this."
Laura Johnston, who owns the business with her husband, said that the ordeal left her stunned.
"We didn't suspect anything and when we found (the theft) it was a big shock," she said. "We felt betrayed."
Hudgens said he is trying to work out a settlement agreement with Berry's civil attorney.
"We are in the process of contacting Berry's attorney to try and reach an agreement so they can recover some of their money," he said. "I am happy to report that Johnston Water Well Service has survived and continues to be a viable and strong business in Tomball."
Johnston said she hopes other business owners learn from her situation.
"People need to be watching," she said. "I don't want this to happen to others."
If convicted, Berry could face a punishment of two to 20 years in state prison.
Early last Monday morning May 6, Montgomery County 911 dispatchers received a call about a bad wreck on FM 1774, south of Magnolia.
When Magnolia firefighters arrived around 1:30 a.m., they found a white 2008 Dodge pickup truck in a ravine off the side of the road, near Hunters Lane.
Officials said that the truck veered off the road and cut through several trees, before ending up on its side. Firefighters and EMT's found the driver, Ramiro Castillo-Juarez, 25, still eat belted inside the cab with minor injuries.
His coworker, Louis Alcala, 47, was not seat belted and was found non-responsive inside the truck. Montgomery County Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace Matt Masden later declared Alcala dead at the scene.
Castillo-Juarez was transported to Tomball Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. After his release he was taken into custody
and jailed on charges of Intoxication Manslaugh-ter.
The crash caused a headache for early morning traffic, as a crane from Milstead Heavy Duty had to be called in to remove the truck from the ravine. FM 1774 was closed in both directions until just after 6 a.m.
Alcala's body was transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's office said that Castillo-Juarez's bond was set at $150,000.
