• June 2 Cpl. Patin arrested a 21-year-old man from Tomball, for Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of Marijuana. At approximately 3:10 a.m., Patin arrested the suspect for Driving While Intoxicated in the 1200 block of Rudel. During a search, Patin discovered marijuana in the suspect's vehicle.
• June 3 Officer Rodriguez arrested an 18-year-old man from The Woodlands, for Possession of a Controlled Substance. At approximately 11 p.m., Rodriguez conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of W. Main and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a search, Rodriguez discovered Hydrocodone, Adderall, Darvocet, Omeprazone, Dextroamphetamine and Alprazolam in the suspect's vehicle.
• June 4 Officer Tikal arrested a 31-year-old woman from Tomball, for Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance. At approximately 2:05 p.m., Tikal responded to a theft in the 27600 block of Tomball Pkwy. During a search, Tikal discovered methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana in the suspect's purse.
• June 4 Officer White arrested a 24-year-old man from Houston, for Assault. At approximately 11:50 p.m., White responded to a disturbance in progress in the 500 block of Baker. Upon investigation, White discovered that the suspect had assaulted a victim.
• June 5 Officer Sampson responded to an automobile theft in the 1500 block of Rudel, where a Toyota Tundra valued at approximately $6,000 was stolen.
• June 5 Detective Smith responded to a criminal mischief report in the 1200 block of Ulrich, where graffiti was discovered on a building, causing approximately $30 in damages.
• June 6 Officer Barrera arrested a 25-year-old man from Tomball, for Assault Family Violence. At approximately 11:55 p.m., Barrera responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of Lawrence. Upon investigation, Barrera discovered that the suspect had assaulted his wife.
• June 6 Officer Thomas responded to a burglary of a building in the 30600 block of Spring Lakes Blvd.., where a notebook computer valued at approximately $2,500, a computer bag valued at approximately $30 and a pair of sunglasses valued at approximately $220 was stolen.
• June 7 Officer Ramsey arrested a 28-year-old man from Magnolia, for Possession of a Controlled Substance. At approximately 5:25 p.m., Ramsey conducted a traffic stop on in the 1400 block of Baker.  During a search, Ramsey discovered methamphetamine in the vehicle.
• June 7 Officer Manickas arrested a 27-year-old woman from Tomball, for Theft. At approximately 6:15 p.m., Manickas responded to a theft in the 14400 block of FM 2920 and the suspect was arrested without incident. Approximately $161.20 worth of merchandise was recovered by the arrest.
• June 8 Officer Manickas responded to a burglary of a motor vehicle in the 28500 block of Tomball Pkwy., where an in-dash DVD player valued at approximately $340 was stolen.

Montgomery Co. Sheriff
• June 3 Deputy Sharman and other deputies arrested a 49-year-old male for a felony warrant in the 14000 block of FM 1488. The suspect was taken to jail
• June 4 At approximately 11 p.m., a deputy went to a welfare check on FM 2978. Upon investigation, it was found that a person was in public and intoxicated. The subject was arrested and taken to jail.
• June 4 Deputy Sharman was dispatched to the High Meadow Ranch subdivision, about a suspicious person. The caller said that a male dressed in black was in the area. The deputy found a 17-year-old male who matched the description and found a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
• June 5 Sgt. Kader was at a residence in the Fawnwood Estates subdivision taking a theft complaint from a 30-year-old male. Kader found that complainant had four outstanding warrants from three different counties. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
• June 5 Deputy Provenzano stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Ruby Lane and Price Lane. The driver, a 46-year-old female was wanted and was taken to jail.
• June 6 Deputy Thomas was dispatched to the Decker Hills subdivision, about narcotics. The deputy saw a 34-year-old male and found a small amount of meth inside a recreational vehicle. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
• June 7 Deputy Sharman found an intoxicated woman in the parking lot of a restaurant on SH 249 who wanted to drive home. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
• June 10 Deputy Sharman was dispatched to the Oak Hills subdivision in Pinehurst, for a disturbance. The deputy arrested a 32-year-old female after she gave a false name and the deputy found that she was wanted for a local warrant.

On Father's Day, fathers, grandfathers and others who act as father figures are honored with barbecues, gifts and other family traditions. But for children in the foster care system, Father's Day can be a day of sadness. 

Removed from their homes due to evidence of abuse or neglect, these children spend Father's Day in foster homes, group homes, residential treatment centers and even psychiatric hospitals. Children in foster care rarely get to see their fathers on Father's Day. Too often, they do not get to see them or know them at all.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers can help Father's Day be a time of celebration for these children. CASA volunteers are community members who are trained and then appointed by courts to advocate for the needs of a child in foster care. They work to guide children through foster care and into safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible.

"Our volunteers advocate for reunification with the child's family and if that's not possible, placement with the child's extended family," said Ann McAlpin, CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County Executive Director. "Unfor-tunately, sometimes a safe relative cannot be found. That's when CASA volunteers work to help place the child with a caring adoptive family." 

Roger Macauley has been a CASA volunteer for three years. As a CASA volunteer, he provides a strong, positive male role model by encouraging the children in school, following up on his promises to advocate for their needs and helping them through their struggles in foster care. Macauley's number one goal is to help the children find a permanent family.

"Roger is speaking for children who, through no fault of their own, end up in foster care. We need more CASA volunteers like Roger!" McAlpin said.

In 2012 there were 870 children in the child protection system in Montgomery County, half of whom are boys that lack consistent male role models. Currently there are only 135 CASA volunteers and too many children have no CASA volunteer to advocate for their best interests.

"Every foster child should have a volunteer, but right now we don't have enough adults stepping up," McAlpin said.

Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF) recently awarded Lone Star College-Tomball with $379,188, for support of the allied health programs at the college. The initial gift of $64,188 will be used to purchase equipment that will enhance instruction in LSC-Tomball's nursing and pharmacy technology programs. Later this year and for the next four years thereafter, the foundation will provide $63,000 to pay the salary and stipend for an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor.

"We are grateful to be able to provide this funding to Lone Star College-Tomball for the equipment and faculty that they need to expand their nursing and pharmacy tech program," said Jack Smith, chairman of the Tomball Regional Health Foundation.

TRHF's vision is to become a catalyst for measurable health and wellness improvements in Tomball and the surrounding communities.

"We sincerely thank Tomball Regional Health Foundation for their support," said Susan Karr, LSC-Tomball president. "Their donation will help us in our goal of providing quality education to our students and qualified health care providers to the Tomball community. TRHF has always been a great partner and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them in the future."

LSC-Tomball is a primary provider of nurses and first responders in the area; 60 percent of nurses and 84 percent of first responders are trained at a community college like LSC-Tomball.
