The Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) is taking back-to-school to heart this fall, by launching new marketing and promotional programs. MACC Chairman Barry Tate of Edward Jones said the group is striving to better serve its membership. "We are working to focus greater attention on our members and how we can better serve them," Tate said. "We recently sent surveys to all our members and are looking for their suggestions and ideas as to how the chamber can better serve them." Tomball PD Sept. 17 - Detective Yoho responded to a theft in the 30700 block of Tomball Pkwy., where an excavator valued at $40,000 was stolen. Sept. 19 - Officer Burns arrested a 27-year-old man from Tomball for Assault Family Violence. At 8:45 p.m., Burns responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of South Pine. Upon investigation, Burns discovered that the suspect had assaulted his common law wife. Sept 18 - Officer Burns arrested a 23-year-old man from Pinehurst for Criminal Mischief. The Magnolia Farmers and Artisans Market, also known as Sweet Magnolia Pickins, is now offering vendors a rebate. Market manager Boo Henderson explains it is due to a new fee charged by the county. “For vendors who sign on with the market for six months or more, we will cover the cost of the new food vendor permit, should the county require one,” she said. “Let me emphasize this is for food vendors subject to the new permit, only.” A new state law allows counties to require a new permit for any food vendors that pass out samples or are…

Tomball students fare well on state tests

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the results of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exam. Although TEA has not released the passing standards for the STAAR exam, Tomball ISD’s students scored very well on the new state assessment. “As we look at the raw scores, it is apparent that in most areas our students scored better than students in our surrounding school districts,” John Neubauer, superintendent of schools, said. “I am very pleased with our results.” As students and teachers prepared for the test last year, there were many uncertainties for all public schools. Tomball PD Sept. 2 - Officer Hernandez arrested a 20-year-old man from Tomball for Possession of Marijuana. At 5:50 p.m., Hernandez conducted a traffic stop in the 27700 block of Tomball Pkwy. and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. On 8-30-12 Officer Stanford and Officer Day was dispatched to a 911 hang up welfare check on Smith St. Upon arrival the 28 y/o w/m informed officers that he wanted to turn himself in for outstanding warrants. The male was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail. On 8-31-12 Officer Menchaca along with Officer Salmassi conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Magnolia Blvd. The driver identified as a 20 y/o w/m was arrested for three warrants out of Tomball. The 20 y/o w/m passenger was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.…

ARRESTS: Narcotics Violations On 08/27/2012 at approximately 16:18, Officer Hernandez was dispatched to a suspicious persons call in the 1000 block of Hicks and found that person to be intoxicated. Officer Hernandez arrested the 30 year old woman from Tomball for Possession of a Controlled Substance. On 08/28/2012 at approximately 11:50, Officer Sampson was dispatched to 28400 block of Tomball Parkway for a suspicious person looking into cars. The 24 year old man from Spring was placed under arrest for an Webster PD warrant. During a search incident to arrest, Officer Sampson discovered cocaine and pills in the suspect’s pocket.…
