With all of the confusion concerning the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as ObamaCare, perhaps you are wondering whether there will be a need for charity clinics, like TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries, following the implementation in 2014. The answer is undeniably "Yes!"
The Congressional Budget Office's latest estimate is that 30 million people in our country – 1 in 10 Americans – will remain uninsured following the full implementation of the Act. Some states, like Texas, chose not to implement the Medicaid expansion portion of the ACA after the Supreme Court deemed such an expansion could not be constitutionally mandated. In those states, the ratio of uninsured will be, therefore, higher. In Texas, there will still be at least four million people uninsured. This includes significant numbers of area residents who are our neighbors, friends and relatives, and those whose work we depend on to support our local economy.
While we are continuing to monitor state and federal efforts around health care reform, we are convinced that nonprofit, volunteer-driven, community-based, faith-centered clinics such as TOMAGWA must remain strong, vibrant and sustainable for years to come. We do not receive money from the federal government in any form, so your continued financial support is essential and greatly appreciated!
