Tomball Mayor Gretchen Fagan honored two area politicians as the Men of the Year for 2013.
Fagan honored Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle and State Representative Allen Fletcher with the awards during the Tomball City Council meeting Nov. 4. She mentioned that it was for the hard work and dedication to seeing the expansion of SH 249 become reality.
"They've just done a tremendous amount for the City of Tomball and for that I just wanted to publicly thank you," she told them.
"Wow, this is quite an honor," Fletcher replied.
Fletcher, in talking about the groundbreaking for the SH 249 expansion, said that the honor just validates the work he has done.
"When I think about the fact that this is what it's come to, that makes receiving this award all that much more special," he said.
Cagle said that when he took office more than two years ago, everyone told him that expand ing SH 249 was a pipe dream.
"Those naysayers all went away," he said.
Cagle said that he is honored to receive the award from what he called "a jewel of the precinct" he represents.
"You guys are so near and dear and I am proud to serve you," he said.
"This is such an amazing community," he said. "It's a very special place."
