Magnolia council member and Mayor pro tem Patsy Williams, 66, passed away at her home Nov. 15, from complications of lung cancer.
Williams was first elected to office in 1992, after moving to the area as a child in 1955. She had been Mayor pro tem since 2001. Magnolia City Secretary Lynne George said she was admired by city staff.
"She was an advocate for the staff because she understood what we do and talked to us," George said. "She was always supportive of our ideas and always encouraging and helpful."
She owned and operated Windstar Service and Equipment, as well and Windstar Wheels, with her husband Jonny. She was also extremely active in the Texas Historical Society and the Historical Society for Magnolia.
Williams was active in Magnolia 4A Economic Development Corporation, Magnolia 4B Community Development Corporation, Little League, the Friendship Center and was a past member of the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
She is survived by her husband, a son Todd and four grandchildren.
George said that Williams was not only a dedicated public servant, but also a great person.
"She was a very warm and caring individual," she said. "We all just loved her. She was always happy and smiling, just a cheerful person."
Services for Williams were held Nov. 20 at Magnolia First Baptist Church and she was laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetary.
