From the Book of Clifford

Many years ago I found out I was going to be a grandpa. I'm happy. It's been over seven years since that occurred and we are now into all the things women do. Shopping, talking, dance recitals and other recreational activities reserved mostly for the female population.

Over the years my wife and I have had our laughs about various events in our lives. We were thinking about our granddaughter's birth and the instructions we received when we kept our granddaughter while babysitting. Even though we had raised two fine children, we were instructed in detail the proper way to watch our new grandbaby. My daughter and son-in-law have probably both made the promise to each other that they will never raise their kids like their mom and dad have.

No siree, they’re gonna do it differently! It's really funny though how many times I catch myself acting just like my own mom and dad.

The announcement of the new addition to my family had brought me back many years ago to when my daughter was born. I was holding in my lap the little girl that has since given birth to my granddaughter. It was a Sunday morning and we were sitting in our normal pew at our former church known as Grace Tabernacle in Tomball.

I was holding her in my lap on my right leg. My left arm was around her body holding her in an upright position and my right hand was sandwiched between her diapered bottom and my leg. I was softly bouncing her on my leg using my hand as a cushion.

After a few moments during the sermon had passed, I developed a slight itch on my right temple, so my natural reaction was to remove my hand and gently drag my fingers through my hair trying to relieve the itch.

As I passed my hand across my temple I placed it back in the previous position on her bottom and returned to the gently bouncing. About 30 seconds had passed and I noticed a slight odor in our area. As I moved her from one leg to the other the odor became more profound and I then noticed something strange and smelly on my hand. Yep, you guessed it! Not only was it on my hand, but I had even rubbed it in my hair! You talk about a quick exit from the church house!

I gently picked her up holding one hand against her bottom and the other holding her body and with extended and out-stretched arms we made our way to clean up, trying not to disturb the other members around us.

They say you reap what you sow. Watch out, Sweetheart, cause your days are coming!

Clifford
