| Houston area offers summer fun for all ages |
|
Summer is a great time to take children out on new adventures for a fun day trip. As the weather heats up, many activities are limited due to the extreme temperatures and rising costs.
Children love the festive atmosphere of a baseball game. At Minute Maid Park, tickets to Astros games start as low as $1 and many games include special events and giveaways throughout the season, such as $1 Hot Dog Day, All-You-Can-Eat-Thursdays, Friday night fireworks and other promotions. On July 12 and August 9, children age 5-15 are allowed to run the bases at the conclusion of the game.
For the fast and furious, Houston Motorsports Park is an exhilarating experience. Children 12 and under admitted free and adult tickets are $10. Parking is an additional $5 per vehicle. For an up-close look at the vehicles, pit passes can be purchased for $25. Houston Motorsports Park races a wide variety of vehicles. Concessions and souvenirs are available in the park.
Large entertainments areas are focused more towards teenagers rather than children. Smaller bowling, golf and laser tag facilities offer the same amount of fun for half the price and half the crowds. Check local listings for discounts and special promotions. Tomball Bowling Center is budget friendly and family oriented. With food, bowling, and arcade games, children will enjoy the classic entertainment. Located in The Woodlands, Shankz Black Light Miniature Golf offers a modern twist on a classic game. For $8.50 general admission, golfers will set out on an adventure of 18 holes with unique twists and turns around every corner. Shankz will even host birthday parties, church events, sports parties and fundraisers, for an additional fee.
A day at the lake or beach is a fun day for everyone. Lake Conroe is a summer hotspot with something for everyone; fishing, swimming, boating, jet skis, water skis and more as well as nice picnic areas and restaurants right on the shores.
An evening picnic in the park is a simple pleasure that people of all ages enjoy. Make sure to bring a comfy blanket, bug spray, sunscreen, eating utensils, ice, and a bag for trash. Burroughs Park, located off FM 2978, has picnic tables and barbeque pits perfect for a summer picnic. The park is built around a large lake, full of ducks and fish. Visitors can enjoy soccer fields, observation decks, boardwalks, hiking trails, sand volleyball, and play ground equipment.
As it is easy to see, having a fun summer is possible without breaking the bank. Life is what you make it!
